EACH COLLEGE ON CAMPUS.
WILL DETERMINE CHAMPION
Boxing will undergo a complete re-
juvenation, at Michigan this yearr
Plans approved of by the Boxing
'oard of Control, show every indica-
ion of a banner year, the biggest in
he history of the University.
For the past three years boxing has
t)een steadily gaining popularity
%mong the, students until now from
all predictions it bids fair to become
L major sport on the campus. The
present plans have materialized large-
ly through the efforts of the Boxing
dlub to have 'the sport recognized
"ere. Practically all of the eastern
schools recognize boxing as an inter-
-ollegiate sport and it has proved
widely popular. Michigan, however
s one of the very few Conference
chools to have sanctoned the sport.
Plan All-campus Tourney
Dr. Arthur G. Hall, Dr. George A.
May, Coach Sullivan, R. V. Libonati,I
'4L and C. A. Hummer, '2 comprise
he Boxing Board of Control. The
nu'ns were drawn up and approved
of, by the Boxing Board of Control
And presented to the Boxing club at
a meeting the past week. The plan
,mils for an all campus tournament I
which Is to be held late In February.
''he entries being open to all students.
Kirk S. White, '23, has been appoint-
Pd manager of boxing and vice presi-
:lent of the boxing club. Asstant
managers will be chosen to represent
thae four groups into which the col-
leges are divided. The literary, law!
and enozineering colleges each will
bpgye one assistant manager at the
head of their activities, while thel
medics, dents and pharmacis will be
~;ou ped together unde the fourth.
Weights Announced
The weights will be divided into
the following classes. Bantamweight.
115 to 118 pounds, Featherweight,
120-125; Lightweight, 130-135; Welter-
weight, 142-148; Mddleweigh, 152-
157; Ligt-Heavy weight, 160-167 and
Heavyweight 175 pounds and upwards.
Champions of each weight in eac-
of the four groups of colleges will
rreceive gold medallions. The chai-
pions of the colleges will later en-
gage in a tournament to determine
the campus champion in each class.
The campus champions will be award-
ed blue jerseys with suitable Michi-
gan insignia on them, as their re-
ward.
Training Already Begun
Although the tournament is not to
be held until late in February, stu-
dents have already started training
for the affair and Coach Sullivan is
'kept busy teaching the fundamentals
f boxing to many. Nearly two hund-
red students .are studying the art of
pelf defense under his coaching and
if the enrollment increases at the
present rate the tournament will be
,ne vast success.
ITORTIMER WILSON FORMER
