For the past three years boxing has t)een steadily gaining popularity %mong the, students until now from all predictions it bids fair to become L major sport on the campus. The present plans have materialized large- ly through the efforts of the Boxing dlub to have 'the sport recognized "ere. Practically all of the eastern schools recognize boxing as an inter- -ollegiate sport and it has proved widely popular. Michigan, however s one of the very few Conference chools to have sanctoned the sport. Plan All-campus Tourney Dr. Arthur G. Hall, Dr. George A. May, Coach Sullivan, R. V. Libonati,I '4L and C. A. Hummer, '2 comprise he Boxing Board of Control. The nu'ns were drawn up and approved of, by the Boxing Board of Control And presented to the Boxing club at a meeting the past week. The plan ,mils for an all campus tournament I which Is to be held late In February. ''he entries being open to all students. Kirk S. White, '23, has been appoint- Pd manager of boxing and vice presi- :lent of the boxing club. Asstant managers will be chosen to represent thae four groups into which the col- leges are divided. The literary, law! and enozineering colleges each will bpgye one assistant manager at the head of their activities, while thel medics, dents and pharmacis will be ~;ou ped together unde the fourth. Weights Announced The weights will be divided into the following classes. Bantamweight. 115 to 118 pounds, Featherweight, 120-125; Lightweight, 130-135; Welter- weight, 142-148; Mddleweigh, 152- 157; Ligt-Heavy weight, 160-167 and Heavyweight 175 pounds and upwards. Champions of each weight in eac- of the four groups of colleges will rreceive gold medallions. The chai- pions of the colleges will later en- gage in a tournament to determine the campus champion in each class. The campus champions will be award- ed blue jerseys with suitable Michi- gan insignia on them, as their re- ward. Training Already Begun Although the tournament is not to be held until late in February, stu- dents have already started training for the affair and Coach Sullivan is 'kept busy teaching the fundamentals f boxing to many. Nearly two hund- red students .are studying the art of pelf defense under his coaching and if the enrollment increases at the present rate the tournament will be ,ne vast success. ITORTIMER WILSON FORMER STUDENT, DIES SUDDENLY Dr. Mortimer Wilson, a former stu- dent at the University, and a promin- ent citizen of Port Huron, was strick- en with apoplexy on the golf course of the Port' Huron Golf and Country club late Thursday, and died instant- ly.
