GOLFERS WIIL OPEN SEASON WITH OHIO

rABLISHED 1810
COR. FORT°Y-,FOURTH STRE
NE2W YORK -%''

Michigan's golf team left for Colum-
bus yesterday afternoon and will meets
Ohio State Saturday in the first match
of the year. The Columbus links,1
where the match will be played, have
been repo'rted to be in fine shape and1
everything looks favorable for a good
match.
Quite an extensive schedule has
been arranged for the team this year
and the match Saturday should in a
way give some indication as to the"

success the squad will meet later on.
Although there has only been a short
time for practice this spring, the men
are playing a fair game .of golf. If
their game can stand up under tourna-
mrent play, their chances for victory
ara exceedingly bright.
The team will go around the course
sometime today in odder to be in full
readiness for the match tomorrow.
The men who made the trip are Capt.
J. H. Winters, H. Smith, F. W. Steke-
tee, and E. T. Broderick.

PRESENTS

Albery and Cranz will compete for
the visitors in the two mile run.
McCreary and Green will strive 'fr'
honors in' the high and low hurdles.
McCreary is especially well known as
a good high hurdler.
. Moorehead, the Ohio Star
Besides doing his bit in the. sprints,
Moorehead will strive for honors in
the broad jump and high jump. He
is known .to have made six feet and
one inch this season which is .tie with
the record of McElven, VIichigan's
high jumper.
Because of the fact tha, this is
their first outdoor meet, nothing is
known as to the strength of the Buck-
eye weight men. e
Coach Steve Farrell sent the men
through another stiff workout and put
the final touches on the team Thurs-
day afternoon. Landowski who has
recovered from his illness of last week
end was again going strong and is
depended upon in the pole vault
event.
arrell Has Not Chosen Team Yet
Although Steve has not announced
the personnel of the team as yet, Sim-
mons, Burke and Purdy are sure of
taking part in the dashes, and Bowen,
Arndt and Standish will most likely
represent Michigan in the mile. Sarg-
ent and Schmitz will be Michigan's
hope in the hurdles. Stipe in the
weight events and Hoffman in the
javelin throw. In the discus throw
Hunter is expected to garner some
points, while McElven is confident of
outjumping Moorehead in the high
jump.
Although the competitin is going
to' be keen, Wolverine tracksters are,
confident of coming through victor-
iously,.
