ing the same toothbrush, although the mere sugges-
tion of such an anomaly would cause a unanimous
revolt. -When an attempt is made to wash the
glasses, they are merely dipped into water which
soon becomes cold and saturated with the remains
of the punch, making this method as futile as the
one more often ,resorted to of not washing the
glasses at all..
As a solution of the problema, it might bet sug-
gested that' punch be served in sansitary, paraffin
cups, at all .dances under Uziveritr supervision at
which the punch bowl is present. This method would,
result in safeguarding the health of the community,
and should not injure the aesthetic sensibilities of,
any reasonable guest. .
FOOLING THE REGISTR.AR '
Oftentimes the student who really wants a broad
and well rounded education feels that his time, and
the restrictions placed pipon him by the University
do not allow him to take all of the courses he ,con-
siders necessary. He believes that in taking mnurely
the required number of hours, he does not get a
complete knowledge of all the fields in which he is
interested. Perhaps this is true, but the difficuty i
easily remedied. h~cmso hc tri
Oftn a-ide hur ome ofwhih the ambitious
student feels she would like to make use. Does it ever
occur to him that he might visit the lecture of some
course that he is not taking ? No more profitable
expenditure of tine could be suggested. He will
get some knowledeg of a course which he is not.
>taking. He is not obliged' to take motes in prepara-
tion for a quizz section. No restrictions hamper
him. He is free to give the speakter his .entire atten-
tion, and thus ;reap the full benefits of the lecture.
Certainly this should appeal to the student who
is desirous of obtaining information on subjects
that he is not studying. It should be an induce~nent
also to .the man ;who has an idle hour which he'
wishes to spend profitably. Such attendance evinces
an honest interest in matters intellectual, and nw.y
be miade the source of .much real enjoyment. Why'
do not more take advantage of such opportunities.
for rounding out their University courses ?
ANOTHER FE ATHE R IN OUR CAP
Michigan's. dual victory over ,Wisconsin and Illi-
nois, in the Mid-West debates Friday night, is just
another feather in the caps of .both the .debating
Team and the department of public speaking. Our
representatives have been unusually successful on
the platform within the past few years, in both the
Mid-West and Central l'eagues. Best of all, their
skill and standing has been maintained consistently.
We cannot give our debaters too much praise ;
they deserve all they get, and a good' deal .more. Thee
place they fill is not a spectacular one. But some-
day, when we are willing to overlook ,that fact, and
are able to view debating in the light of an intellec-
tual, beneficial, and highly fascinating sport, the
support given our orators will be whole-hearted :and
adequate.
The writer of a communication concerning "pet-f
ting", which appeared in a recent isscue of The Daily,
states that "one looks in vain for a really nice girl": .
'Without assuming to doubt the writer's sincerity; we,
are inclined to .wonder if he hasn't by .chance been
looking in the wrong places:
