DERMAL CREAM

"There is nothing wrong with the
girl of today because she uses a lip
stick and a little rouge and powder;"f
said Mary, Rose Potter, Dean of Wo-1
men at Northwestern university, at*
a meeting' of mtinisters' wives, 'whichl
was held recently. "Of course thesel
things and her knee-length dresses,
and flimsy stockings,'and flimsy every-1
thing dre not of her mother's genera-
tion.. Nevertheless, she is good andf
sweet and kind at heart."
Deanx Potter- believes that the spirit;
of perso'nal independence created by
the war is the cause of the modern
girl's departure from the conventions
of the-previous generation in her mode
of dressing.'
TIMBER EXPORTATION
UNWISE--PROF. YOUNG,
Contrary to trade commissioner -N.
C. Brown's recommendation of Spain
and Portugal as lumber markets, Prof.
Leigh J. Young, of the forestry de-
partmient, states that no timber should'
leave the country at this time.
"The United States -has no business
exporting lumber," says. Professor
Young. "Even as matters stand, we
are going to be short for 100 years.
Four times the present timber stand;
in this country will be necessary bet-
fore we will have enough. Only one-'
tenth of our pulp manufacturers are
independent of Canada as a source of1
raw material, and 56 per cent: procure'i
all their wood from this source. To'
make matters worse,e the Canadian
government has just ;restricted ex-
ports from crown lands in the pro-
vince of Quebec to one-third of the
present amount, so that in three
fyears the big eastern mills will be:
forced out of business 'or compelled to
set up their factories in Canada.
"It is nonsense to talk about ex-
porting timber. The only people in
America whome it would not harm
would be the exporters."
