Expectation to see Liberty bonds at,
par within the next three years and at
lowering of interest rates, in the -very
near future was expressed by Prof.'
David Friday, of the economics depart-{
ment, before a meeting of the Mich-'
igan Bankers' association in Detroit.t
"When a man is making 10 or 20 orI
30 per cent profit, he doesn't care
much whether he pays 5, 6 or 7 per,
cent, or higher, but he's not making,
those profits now," said Professor Fri-
day. "The adage about 'the poor grow

poorer and the rich grow richer is non-
sense,' the poor were never more pros-
perous than today. Demand for cap-
tal will remain so long as a high
standard of living exists. If India or
China ever adopt our standards, the
demand for money will be tremend-
ous."
At its convention the association
adopted a resolution opposing a state
income tax as likely to "promote ex-
travagance instead of conserving ex-
penditures."
