NECESSITIES FOR THE BALL

JUNIOR WOMEN HEAR
PLAS[go NUAP PY
Manuscripts for the Junior Girls'
play must be given to Gertrude Groff,
'22, chairman of the play committee
before Nov. 1. This announcement
was made at Dean Myra B. Jordan's
reception for junior girls, held yester-
day afternoon in Barbour gymnasium.
"In order -to make the play a suc-
cess, the work upon it must begin
early in the year," said Miss Groff, in
speaking of the plans of the commit-
tee. "The plot of the play will be se-
lected before Christmas, so that try-
outs may begin immediately after the
holidays."
The manuscripts are to consist of
plot outlines and originality of treat-
ment is the characteristic that will be
considered most in the selection of a
play, it was stated. All juniors in-
cluding entering girls are eligible for
the competition.
It was also decided that there should
be informal class meetings once a
month throughout the year, to enable
the girls of '22 to know one another.
Following the meeting refreshments
were served, and there was dancing
in the gymnasium.

An enrollment of 162 nurses in the
Nurses Training school, connected'
with the University hospital fails to
supply the constantly increasing de-
mand.
Due to the facility with which wo-
men may now engage in business,
and the long hours that nurses have
been subjected to, a decrease in the
number of girls entering the ,nursing
profession has been noted.
To remedy this condition the nurses
in the University hosptial have the
eight hour day while the same length
of time for night duty is to go into
effect Nov. 1.
Student activities are being stressed
more and more. The new nurses have
the same course in physical educa-
tion that freshman girls in any other
department in the University have.
