about the State .aggregation but it
is doubtful whether they could have
developed a team that will give the
Wolverine's a great deal of trouble in
one wear's time. Last year the Var-a
sity won fromn them by a large score.
Steve devoted most of his time Wed-
nesday to the distance~ men. /rhese
events have caused the coach more
concern in the past several years than
any of, the others. The Varsity is ex-
pected to outscore the Ohio squad in
the dashes, the weights, and the hur-
dies. Michigan also has an added
advantage, Jn having competed in an
outdoor meet.
The performance of Dunne in the
javelin throw will be watched with
interest as he broke' the Conference
record last Saturday in the trials,
while Stipe's performance in the
weights will also be awaited. In the ii
trials this weight man surprised the
track followers by beating Van Orden.
RUTH AND KELLY FIGHT FOR
19-01 HOME RUN HONORS!
Both Babe Ruth and George Kelly,.
Giant first baseman who is leading
the Bambino a merry chase for home
run honors this year, added a four
base knock to their totals in Mon-
dlay's games, Kelly bringing his -total
to seven while Ruth has accumulated
six.
Kelly achieved his blow- in the
game against Boston with a runner,
on base and Watson of the Braves
pitching. Ruth made his in the game
with the Red Sox at Boston, driving
the ball far into, the right fleld bleach-
ers for the Yankees only score of the
game.

14VEIRTRUDE," THE TACK(LING
DunnLy, ROU.GI1LY HANDLED
"Gertrude" tihe tacling dummay at
Ferry field was again the big attrac-
tion yesterday afternoon for the spring
football men: The candidates took to
her immediately and were soon treat-
ing her in a most ungentlemanly man-
ner. Following this the -mend werel
gathered into squads and sent in for
a light scrimmage.. Knode, brother
of Mike of baseball fame, led one team1
while Banks quartered. on the other.
Tad Wieman spent a short, time
showing the men how to sidestep and
twirl from the arms of all opposing
tackler, and had themr running down
passes and kicking the pig:-skin, Dun-
leavy looks to be the best bet in boot-
ing the ball so far, lie has not had
much experience but with careful
coaching Tad thinks that he will prove
a valuable booter.
