Johnson Stars as Usual
With Capt. Carl Johnson as a key-
stone, Coach Farrell has succeeded in
building up a strong track aggrega-
tion, which last Saturday night' lived
up to the highest expectations of its
supporters and admirers.
Johnson's time of eight seconds flat
for the 75-yard low-hurdles is one of
the best performances ever seen in
the West. This mark can be well ap-
preciated by noting that the 75-yard
dash was only negotiated in 2-5 of a
second les than the hurdles and the
dash time equaled the ,American rec-
ord. Mat Delaney, the referee of the
meet, said that Johnson's time would
probably be a new American amateur
mark, inasmuch as the hurdles were
20-yards apart, a comparatively new
arrangement. In establishing this rec-
ord, Johnson defoated. Legendre of
Georgetown, who won the pentathalon
at the Inter-Allied games in Paris last
year.
