PICTURES PLIGHT OF STARVING
INHABITANTS OF CZECHiO-
SLOVAKIA
'I have no doubt but that the Ger-
mans will renew the war," said Har-
riet E: Beard, '98,.who spoke last Fri-
day afternoon to the Women's league
about her work in the Russian prov-
ince, Czecho-Slovakia.
"The Germans in this province feel
that some day they will unite with
Russia and crush France." Germany
will furnish the brains and Russia
will furnish the force. The German
people will not accept the terms of
the Peace Treaty. They may sign. it
but they are not able to abide by its
teres.
Children Undernourished
"In the province of Czecho-Slovakia
the children are undernourished and
sick. There is not a healthy child
there. The babies all have the rick-
ets. Some are so badly infected that
they can hardly be recognized as hu-
man bodies. The two sides of the
body do not develop equally and their
bones have no rigidity. Many of them
have not had a drop of milk but are
fed on potatoes.
"The German men and women, if
they were not constantly watched, in
every case took the food 'from the
mouts of starving babies.rMany
times they gave it to husky boys of
13 or 14 years, in order that the boys
could fight the allies. The people
were allowed meat' once a week but
when it was examined by the Amer-
icans, it was found to bebtubercular.
Says We Are Blind
"But the Americans are so blind,"

believe that the people over there can
take care of themselves. We should
encourage the republic and try to help
the peopl4. The time may come when
this little republic will flourish and
be a lasting democracy.!

Paramount Artcraft Picture when you gasp, moments when you chuckle with the rich fun of it, moments when you grasp the
