Appointed to Judge Best
Papers
Prizes totaling $2,000 are to be
awarded, during the coming year, to
writers of winning papers on eco-
nomic subjects according to a bulle-
tin just received by Prof. I. Leo Shraf-
man.
A committee consisting of Prof. J.
Lawrence Laughlin, University of Chi-
cago, chairman; Prof. J. B. Clark,
Columbia University; Prof. Henry C.
Adams, University of Michigan; Prof.
Edwin F. Gay, Harvard University;
and Hon. Theodore E. Burton, New
York City, is enabled to offer these
prizes through the courtesy of the
Messrs. Hart, Schaffner and Marx of
Chicago.
The class A prizes are: first $1,000;
second $500. Those in class B are:
fiirst $300; second $200. The commit-
tee holds the right, however, to award
class A prizes to class B men if they
consider the papers of sufficient merit.

About $5,000 worth of rugs were
sold at the rug exhibit in the Union
during the last three days. One rug'
valued at $2,500 is under considera-
tion by an Ann Arbor buyer. The ex-
hibit will be ,shown next in Detroit.

health service will speak on "The Care
and Welfare of the Baby" before the
teachers of the Normal, members of

U. S. SEAPLANE COVERS 1,250
MILES IN 20-HOUR FLIGHT
Washington, April 26. - A naval
seaplane attached to the Hampton
Roads base has just completed a 20-
hour flight in which it covered a dis-
tance of 1,250 miles, the navy depart-
ment was advised late today by the
commandant at Norfolk. This distance
is about two-thirds of that which the
seaplane must cover on the proposed
transatlantic flight from Newfound-
land.
