OACH FARRELL WATCHES'
TRACK MEN AT WORKOUT
MATERIAL GIVES PROMISES
PRODUCING WONDERFUL
SQITAD
OF
Indoor track practice was held for
the first time this season in Waterman
gymnasium yesterday afternoon. Coach
SteveFarrell, who just recently re-
turned to the University, having been
honorably discharged from the army,
was on hand for the initial workout,
and announced that he was pleased
with the showinghthat the men made.
Due to the inactivity of the short
trousered squad during the past few
months, yesterday's workout was
made a limbering-up exercise, that the
men may be gradually gotten into
shape for the coming year's work."
Light Workouts
Preliminary running and light
workouts will be the program for a
week or two. The coach will rely
mainly upon the easy trotting to
round his men into condition.
With Sedgwick and Johnson in the
running, and appearingbregularly for
practice, ti is very probable that the
team that will be built about them
will be as powerful as any that Mich-
igan has ever produced. Cross, the
steller pole vaulter, is another men
upon whom the Wolverines will- de-
pend for a number of points.
Good Squad Out
Robinson and Slaughter will also
compete in the same event. Butler,
who will probably run the 440, was
out and is rapidly rounding into form.
Louch, a sprinter with experience -)n
the freshman team ,is the only man
excepting Johnson who has showed
promise in the dashes. Lukins and
Shaw, who alsoshad experience-on the
freshman team, are out for the dis-
tances. Everett and Douglas, of the
cross country team, will also partici-
pate in the long runs. Simmonds, of
last year's tem, was getting into form
for the high jump.
Altogether there were more than 30
men out. It is expected that the
squad will increase in the coming tew
days. It is not yet known when t.,.e
first meet will be, yet it is nece',aiy
to be ready as soon as possible.

LIGHT WORKOUT IS SCHEDULED
FOR COURT PLAYERS
TIS WEEK
Light work is promised the Var-
sity five during practices this week.
The whole squad is ready for a:
change from thehard scrimmages and
tussles that have comprised most of
the workouts up to this time. They
have just completed two games in
their regular schedule and a very hard
trip, so the coach has decided to ease
up on the boys for a week, the idea
being that the team must not be al-
lowed to go stale.
Improvement in basket shooting is
of more importance than anything
else at present according to Coach
Mitchell ,and only those who have
not been able to get into the recent,
tussles will be called upon to scrim-
mage.
Illinois preliminary basketball sea-
son ended Jan. 11 when the Illinois-
Wabash game was called off. The
Conference season will open when
Captain Ingwersen's team tackles the
Purdue five on its own floor.

AT THE MAJESTIC
Not a filn play-but the authentic pictures taken by the
Signal Corps, A. E. F.
"America's Answer" which is shown'
at the Majestic theater for the last
times today covers the ground of,
Uncle Sam's preparation for the re-
ceipt of the troops in France. It
shows the railroads, docks, ware-
houses, refrigerator plants, and other
necessary buildings which the govern-
ment had to have in France before it
was safe to send our troops over. It
shows these things in the making and
also gives a glimpse of the battle
fields itself, under fire when the Am-
erican' troops made a raid upon the
Germans.
"America's Answer" explaining as it
does just what the government did to
make the army safe and healthful, isl
the best answer to the question which
many are asking now, "What hap-
pened to make the kaiser quit so sud-
denly?"
General Pershing has asked that
each of the 21 Allied armies send ath-
letic teams to Paris to compete in the
Colombes stadium there in May or
June. The teams are to be composed
of both officers and men and the Unit-
