THE MICHIGN DAILY L

Interesting in the extreme as well
as unique in point of subject matter
is the "homeward bound" edition of
"Flights and Landings," official news-
paer of the air service of the A. E. F.,
published in France, by officers and
enlisted men of the Puy de Dome
section.
The paper, after a continued fight
against the reverses which ipeet the
publication of a journal under the
existing condition near the battle
fields of France, closed its offices on
Dec. 11, when the final edition of'
eight pages was given to" its readers.
Contains History of Division
The feature of the edition is a his-
tory of the division, together with
photographs of its officers and a few
>f the enlisted men who have made
t famous among flying men of the
army. Although published in France,
t bears all the ear-marks of ' a
'made in America" newspaper and one
nay look through it to find in its col-
imns the articles which would be
he most interesting to boys 3,000
niles from home. An officer of the
ection, held prisoner in Germany
,nd released by the signing of the
rmistice, tells his story; enlisted
aen, on leave in Paris at the time of
he visit of King George to the capital

chant of Elkhart, Indiana, advises the
boys when in his city to stop in and
see him. A moving picture theater
in the section also advertises its show
in true American fashion and the
name of the producer whose film is
being shown is that of a well known
American.
Similar to "Stars and Stripes"
Altogether the paper is one of
which the air service may well be
proud and it is to be supposed that its
appearance on Sunday of each week
was looked forward to by the men
with a great deal of interest When
publication stopped by reason of the
departure 'of many of the men for
America, the paper was running on a
sound financial basis, due mainly to
the efforts of Capt. Donald Lyle, who
became business manager of the pub-

lication late in February, 1917, short-
ly after its- initial publication on the
fifteenth of that month. The paper
may be classed, in point of interest
and completeness, with the "Stars and
Stripes," the official paper of the

cate tle basket on free throws. Boyd,
their little forward, played the best
game for the Custer team, being all
over the floor and in every play.
The crowd was small, due partly
perhaps to the fact that many of the
former student soldiers have not yet
secured their coupon books at the
athletic office. However, if the at-
tendance at the game conti ues to be
as poor as at the opening game it is
but slight wonder that the team
plays without spirit.
The crowd which did turn out
seemed dumb, never uttering a sound,
but this might have been because
there was but little to cheer.
