LYNEEDED TO
HELP IN WAR ZONE
ORPHANS STILL NEED AID
OF PEOPLE IN THIS
COUNTRY
ociety, of which Marshal Joffre
iorary president, has for its ob-
the care of the children made
less in the present war. Among
ilions of unfortunates, this or-
Ltion has taken 250,000 names
hopes to find jromes for them
r the New Year.
Small Sum Required
ias been estimated that 10 cents
lay-$3 per month-$36.50 per
will keep one child at home with
other. The Ann Arbor commit-
as found godparents for 250 of
* orphans, but there are still
for whom homes have not yet
found. Names and addresses of
Liidren can be furnished to those
steed by application to the local
rs.
Endorsed by Irvin S. Cobb
se fortunate enough to hear Ir-
obb Saturday evening will be
sted in his endorsement of this
y in the following autographed
written to the chairman kof the
Arbor committee, Mrs. L. P.
om my own experiences and ob-
tions overseas, I would say that
,ps the most satisfactory fash-
i which Americans may express
affection for, and sympathy
that wonderfully steadfast, brave
e, the French, is by giving to the

fund for the support of French war-
orphans.
"When one thinks that the contri-
bution of 10 cents a day brings com-
fort-yes,erhaps life Itself-to a
child made fatherless in the war for
liberty and decency, one is astonished
that there are not millions of regular
supporters of this beautiful charity
in our own land.
"And the French babies are such
bonny barns-such bright, winsome,
polite, mannerly little people that if
you could only see them as I have
seen them, cheerful in their dismal
surroundings on the edge of the des-
olated areas, going clothed in rags,
playing with makeshift toys of wood
and rags in the ruins of their homes
and all so gratefully appreciative of
a kindly word from an American, I
am' sure that each one of you who
reads this would lose no / time in
adopting as many of.these waror-
phAns as you could afford--and then
a few more on top of that."

CHANGE TO METRIC SYSTEM
WILL COME BEFORE CONQRESS
A bill urging the use of the metric
system of weights and measurements
for the United States will be intro-
duced into Congress by the American
section of the International High
Commission, which aims to bring
about greater uniformity of commer-
cial law and regulations.
In anticipation of closer commer-
