OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN OPPOR-
TUNITIES
The offer of the National City Bank
to a selected number of universities
throughout the country is pregnant
with opportunities. It is an experi-
ment in combining practical and the-
oretical work which may possibly have
far-reaching effects in the determina-
tion of college curricula in the future.
It is an opportunity to banks and other
business houses to get picked men
trained especially for them. It is an
opportunity to the student which will
enable him to pass over several of
the preliminary steps necessary in
"landing a job.,'
This plan is a part of the big idea to
put the United States in the position of.
the leading commercial nation of the
world. According to a letter recently
received from William Welsh, '12, the
men who come up to the standards set
by the bank and his university will,
be given a prominent part in this
movement. This is the real opportun-
ity; not selfish,-not local, but national.
Ohio Club Postpones Meeting,
The meeting for the organizing of
an Ohio club which was to have been
held this week has been postponed
until next week. The fact that no defi-

friends deserted you?
"Have you kept the faith, romance
and idealism of your youth?
"Are you determined to be and do
the best there is in your line of work?
"Can you enjoy a good joke on your-
self?
"Are you helping to make your
friends and neighbors optimistic?
"Is your final ambition unselfish?"
How much of a grade could you at-
tain as an optimist? Such a list of
questions is good for the soul. .They
set us to thinking, they stimulate
self-analysis. A probe of ourselves is
always of value, especially in deter-
mining our degree of optimism.
An hour cannot be spent more prof-
itably than in keen, searching self-
examination. Just try it sometime and
then start a campaign for reconstruc-
tion.
FRATERNTITES AND HOUSE CLUBS
GET INSTRUCTION IN HYGIENE
A meeting of the Health Service
representatives will be held in the
Medical building Monday evening. It
is the aim of the Health Service au-
thorities to instruct one person from
each fraternity or club house in sani-
tation and hygiene, which instruction
he will carry to his friends.
At the meetings to be held during the
remainder of the year, prominent mem-
bers of the medical faculty will give
talks on subjects of vital interest to
young men.

NOTICE
At its March meeting, the Board of
Control of- Student Publications will
choose a business manager and pan-
aging editor for The Wolverine and
The Students' Directory respectively.
It is the policy of the board in filling
the positions on the publications un-
der its control to award them on the
basis of merit to those who have
served In minor positions on the pub-
lication to which th positions pertain,
It sometimes happens, however, that
no one who has served on the publica-
tion during the year is eligible or ca-
pable of filling one of the leading po-
sitions for the ensuing year. When
either of these sets of circumstances
arises the board finds it necessary to
consider outside candidates. This no-
tice should not be considered as an
intimation that either of these situa-
tions will arise this year.
All applications for these positions
should be in the hands of Professor
F. N. Scott as soon as possible and not
later than March 17 in order to be con-
sidered. Each application should con-
tain a statement of the experience of
the applicant and should be accomp-
anied by the applicant's eligibility
card and any letters of recommenda-
tion which he may have.
