WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP
GOES TO RED SOX IN
FIFTH GAME OF SERIES
Boston Taim 'akes Slugging Match,
Although Hard Pressed by
Moran's Men
FOST1'E, OPPOSES MAYER AND
RIXEY; FINAL SCORE 5 TO 4
PhilaCV0Iphia, Pa., Oct. 13.-(Spe-
cial.)-Boston will again shelter the
world's championship this year, that
honor being won by the Red Sox when
they beat the Phillies in today's title
game. The final score was 5 to 4.
Unlike the former contests of the
series, the game resolved itself into
a slugging match, and the American
uartment, just as they have in others.
Harry Hooper made a name for him-
self by getting two homp runs. Lewis
and Luderus also got homers off the
opposing pitchers.
Foster pitched for Boston, and was
hit rather freely in comparison with
his previous performance. Mayer
started for Moran, but he was dis-
placed by Rixey when the Boston
wrecking crew started work.
Philadelphia scored twice in the
first when Stock was hit by a pitched
ball, Bancroft and Paskert singled,
and after Cravath had hit into a dou-
ble play, Luderus doubled. Gardner
tripled and Barry singled, scoring one
for Boston in the second.
Hooper got his first homer in thV
third with no one on. Luderus fol-
lowed suit in the fourth. In the sane
inning Niehoff scored on his own hit,
Burns' single and Gardner's ,muff.
This was the end of the scoring until
RIFLE CLUB ; )IEBERSIIIP LIST
ShOWS 10(0 PlRCENT INCIlEASE
At a meeting held by the Rifle club
last evening, the total list of members
was doubled as compared with the
figures of a year ago. According to
all indications, the team representing
the Maize and the Blue will have little
difficulty in heading the list of the.
teams in class "B" this season.
.F. A. Rowe, directdr of intramural
athletics; gave a brief account of the
new rifle range being constructed
under the west end of the baseball
grandstand at Ferry Field. He stated
that it will be ready for the use of
members of the Rife club by the end
of the week. Mr. Rowe also told about
the plans for the contests to be staged-
this year, both intercollegiate and in-
terdepartmental. The members of the
team competing with - colleges and
universities will be %warded suitable
insignia, and 'those shooting on the
winning interdepartmental team will1
be awarded class numerals.
Other talks were given the members1
by Prof. J. W. Bradshaw and Mr. 0.
