TI-IE SOU7THIERN TRIP.
While the rest of us were sitting
around and looking pretty, thie base-
ball team was fdown south sawing
wood. The saw was sharli and the
wood was mostly soft. But this does
not lessen the credit which the saw-
yers deserve. Their work was laid ouit
for them.
Something besides sapling-s are in
the big pile of wook stacked tup on
Ferry field, and in little piles in the
east. There are pieces of hickory and
oak which will make the best saw bind
and buckle. Occasionally a blade will
be broken. Then bystanders will lend
some encouragement, the toilers will
take a brace and the Work will go on.
When the, last stick, a piece of the
hardy. Penn tree, is laid in two, the
moder'n woodmen of America and.
points east will look back and say,
"It was a great season."

team to run in the medley race, should
the mentor decide to send the extra
mnen. During the indoor season Michi-
gan's medley team showed well at Buf-

team may be sent to compete in the
gamnes at the Quaker city. The choice
of all rien going to P~hiladelphia will
be made tomorrow a fternoon.
During the spring recess practice for
the track team was held daily at Ferry
field, most of the candidates having re-
mailned in Ann Arbor for a part or all
of the holidays.

Efforts on the part of' several of the
state senators to amend the Straight
state wide prohibition bill last Tues-
(lay, and the adoption of the proposed.
amendmnents, caused the bill to be for-
saiken by both the "wet" and the "dry"
element, and it was defeated by a vote
of 29 to 2. Shortly after this measure
was killed, Senator Straight's bill to
prohibit the sale or manufacture of in-
toxicants within a five mile radius of
all state educational institutions, was
referred back to the committee, and it
is said that no attempt will be made to
have it passed at this session,
In lieu of both bills, the Michigan
anti-saloon league will make an effort
for the initiation by petition of an

' The judgment which. was given to

His application for the discharge
