This week-end's offering at the Ma-
jestic is conservative in tone, and
somewhat above the average in quali-
ty and variety. The headliner is prob-
ably J. C. Nugent, assisted by Jule
York, in a cross section of metropoli-
tan life called "The Squarer." Moralis
Brothers are responsible for a stunt
act of real quality, the principal fea-
ture being the juggling of a life-size
billiard table. A male trio with some
good harmony, a neat musical act by a
French team and a song and dance
with the usual pony proclivities com-
plete the program.
:ar-- Dressler in "A Mix-Up"
Miss Marie Dressler, the funniest
woman on the American stage, comes
to the Garrick theatre,. Detroit, next
Monday evening, for a week's engage-
ment in a new comedy, entitled "A
Mix-Up," which will be presented un-
der the direction of the Messrs. Shu-
bert. The farce was written by Parker
A. Hord, and concerns the misadven-
tures, serious and comic, of a burles-
que actress who gets into the wrong
flat by mistake.

THE JUNIOR HOP.
Without attempting to anticipate the
work of those whose principal concern
it is to negotiate for the return of the
hop, it might be suggested that the
subject be considered before it is too
late. The re-instatement of the an-
nual social function, if it materializes,
will probably not be uncontended. The
hop was not abolished without reason,
and it is not reasonable to expect that
the faculty will permit its re-estab--
lishment unless there is an off-setting
argument in its favor.
It would seem that such an argument
exists, and that the hop deserves a
place at Michigan. Standing, as the
one really representative and import-
ant social function of the college year,
it is not an altogether frivolous insti-
tution. Nothing has been able to su-
persede it in the score or more of
years since its introduction. The cam-
pus is looking forward to another hop,
conducted along right lines, and it is
believed that the authorities will co-
operate in its restoration, when all
sides of the case are made apparent.
Some ardent- ones would name
"Maully" for president-of the Union,
leader of the Glee and Mandolin clubs,
president of the council and regent of
the university, along with several et
ceteras.
