FRESH UPSET DOPE IN TRYOUTS
First Year Track Artists Show Best
Time In Trials
Freshman sprinters upset the dope'
in yesterday's tryouts for positions on
the inter-class relay teams, which are
to compete between halves of the
Pennsylvania game.
No less than five first year men
stepped 220 yards in 23:4, and under.
The feature of the afternoon's per-
formance was the heat won by Robin-
son, the Keewatin flyer, who was
caught in 22 seconds flat. Although
favored by a fairly strong breeze,
which assisted materially, nevertheless
his time is sensational, considering
the weather and the condition of the
track. Scofield, another freshman, is
credited with the second best time,
running the distance in 23:1. Baer,
Randall and Herdell, all of the fresh-
men squad, tied at 23.4.
Huntington romped away with hon-
ors for the sophs, his 23:2 placing
him at the top of his division. Several
of the other 1917 men were not far
behind, however, and two of the sec-
ond year cracks, O'Brien and Fontana,
did not show up. Contrary to the orig-
inal announcement, trials will be held
again this afternoon and tomorrow.
But one member of the senior class
came out, and unless considerable
more enthusiasm is aroused among the
1915 men, they will not be represent-
ed at all Saturday afternoon. Gorman,
with 24:2, ran the fastest lap for the
juniors.
