AFTERMATH.1
It is with genuine regret that we1
witness the. passing of "Cntrarie,
Mary"; regret because so good a pro-
duction must be confined to one city
andl to tour days of eistence. We
have no quarrel with those who ap-
praise this year's Union opera the best
in a long line of excellent shows. It
looks that: way to us, ..and bythat we
are not endeavoring to disparage its.j
notable predecessors.
All-aside from the enjoyment t has;
given, we °will have to thank .Cn-
trarie Mary" for a lot of things. It has
gone..far from the old ourses.:taken
by the Union operas and the result is
a prodution -which should ,take with..s
any audience under the sun.. What
stands out above everything, else is the
general balance of the play. Lines,mu-
sic, acting, and setting seem to°poses
a blend, natural to a dtegree not attain- i
ed in previous Years. Fture Union
operas may well look to their laurels
with "Contrarie Mary" setting the
pace.
We take this method of cngratulat-
ing everyone connected with the 1913
opera,.from--the generalmanager down
to the smallest-broiler, fr the =staging ;
of a show-which -has justly "won uni-
versal praise and commendation. ;
IVING IDEALS.
We're migty proud aof our .student
body for the part it is playing in the ,
nation-wide food relief movement, ev-
en though that part be small in com-
parison .with the whle campaign. ,
Many the heart that will be made
ighter in its darkest hour through -the,
generosity of Michigan's undergradu-
ates.
May we repeat-we are proud of our'
student ody-our men and women. "In
an humble way, Perhaps, the ideal of
service :has been ,brought-home. U-
timnately, tts will make benefiiaries
of present benefactors,for ideals which
