A SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT.
The student council is to be com-
mended for the able way in which it
has disposed of the difficulties arising
out of the recent junior law election
to the council. Under the circumstan-
ces, no other course could have been
open, bit In the invalidating of the
election, all the equities arising out
of the case have been taken care of,
and the classmates of the men con-
cerned will rejoice' In their complete
exoneration.,
This test case'will probably not be
without Its future results and benefits,
In the course of time, any ideal and
any rule, may become dimmed to such
an extent that violations may occur
without any wrong intentions, what-
soever. We are inclined to think that
this is exactly what has happened this
year in the case of the junior law
class. We are further confident that
the campus, having had the rule for-
bidding no campaigning for council
seats, even by friends, impressed
anew, and having come to a new reali-
zation of just how much the life of the
council depends upon its enforcement,
will get behind their governing body
in making its observance possible.
And it is up to the council to see
that the rule does not again grow dim
in the memories of the new genera-
tions that keep coming to the univer-
sity each year.
THE LINK.
He is omnipresent. You can find
him at any time on the street corner
that happens to be nearest to you, his
chin deep in his collar, his hands deep
in frayed pockets. Whether you be
the veriest grindl of grinds, or the
brightfest star in the athletic heav'ens,
or both, hle knows y-ou by namne, by-
nicknaome if you have one-and who
hasn't in these day's?.
Ile is omnnicient: that is, he is if
the proper study of mankind is man;
for hum an nature is his specialty, and
h e hits it pat. *He has divided the;
world into two parts, those who cast
off worn clothes, and those who wear.
cast-off clothes; and has constituted'
himself. the link between. His upper
class has a margin to waste on~cloth-
es, his lower class has a bit bigger
margin to spend on clothes: the dif-
ference is his. Ike takes it.
"There °ome(s a fellow who wouldn't
wear a shirny serge," he says, "and
I'll bet he's got -one. Looks musical,
too. Wonder how he'd-like to hear the. ,
rattle of a couple, o' wheels "--And
then, "Got any, business today?"
Fifteen minuites later he comes
along the street with the shiny serge
over his left arm, vest tucked' juto a
sleeve,'troutsers folded inside, the coat.'
H-is right hand is loadedA with old_
shoes. He is smiling.'
Along another street goes the late
owner of the clothes, jingling som~e-'
thing in his pocket.,IHe, too, is' smil-
in g.
A week later, in some nearby city,
Michael Angelo Spaghetti arrays him-
self in a new suit. And he is smiling;.
So is the, Link--tagain,
Shrewd, but honest; clev-er, but
kindly; impossible to "beat," but, An
ever-present hlin i lean times; ubiq-,
uitous, sometimes, even bothersome,
but never to beU scorned;--such, is the
Old1 Clothes Man. We wonder, just-
as a matter of idle speculation, how
many parties he has financed.

MAI( PLA'NS To ISERVE NOON
Noon lunches will be served at New-
berry hall during the second semester
if women interested. will cooperate
with the committee in charge of the
affair. This idea is designed to meet
the needs of women who live in neigh-
boring towns or in the outskirts .of the
city, who are uinable to go home' dur-
ing the day.
This scheme will not, go into effect,
however, unless all' those who intend
to use the lunch counter notify Ellen
Moore, secretary of the Y. W. C. A.
within the next two weeks. If enough
women promise to patronize" this de-
partment, the meal 1will be served at
a minimum cost on the five regular
school days. No meal will be served
Saturday.
