A BAND AT PENNSY?
The resolutions passed by the stu-
dent council in reference to "the band
to Pennsy fund" meet the unbiased
approval of The Michigan Daily. The
band ought to go to Pennsy. The ath-
letic association ought to take it.
Sending the band on an annual trip,
since the burden has never been borne
by the athletic association, has here-
tofore involved an uncertain begging
campaign among the students. Sen-
timent among undergraduates, both
men and women, is strongly against a
repetition of such a process. It is felt
that it would be a farce and a failure.
These same undergraduates feel that
the band should go and that the ath-
letic association should send it. Many,
whose almost only athletic contribu-
tions in the past have been for the
band trip, this year have paid the ath-
letic association five dollars for things
athletic; and they feel that that is
enough.
it IS enough. The athletic associa-
tion this year has sources of income
never before obtainable. The "blanket
tax," including the memberships of
"M" men, the fees from the band men,
who formerly entered the games free,
the abolition of passes for undergrad-
uates, the interest on a principal of
$25,000 which comes in a lump in Oc-
tober instead of smaller amounts
throughout the year, is new. The as-
sociation is inaugurating a new sys-
tem; it should provide for the band;
If it is absolutely impossible for the
athletic association to afford $850 for

He left his lass away back hum,
For he's to college gone;
So other fellows often come
To teas upon:her lawn.
What chance has he to keep a place-
Acarner in her heart?
What chance has he to win the race,
When all but he can start?
No girl was ever won by way
Of wireless,-with sense,
So man, do not your hope mislay,
Possession is nine-tenths.
Oh, give me tongue to tell, dear,
How much I care for you.
Without you life is-well, dear,
Take what I mean as true.
