taught Michigan a new lesson, the

__________of 1 urop)e, the solemun responsibility
of belonging to a great university is
continually impressed upon the stu-
dents. Oxford undergraduates aire al-
ways seen in gowns whch represent
their connection with the traditions

But in -Michigan and other schools the
grouf spirit has been put to more
boisterous uses, howling athletic

"So we thank the Convocation for
bringing us back to a sense of our own
dignity. Today we realize as never
before the sublimity and grandetur of
our Alma Mater."
Another use now sug-gests itself for,
the Convocations, which might be held
in the future with greater regularity
and frequency-that of arousing and
sustaining "Mlichigan Spirit." The
disorganized condition of this great,
cosmopolitan student body has had its
natural result upon the individual. It
has been said, with no small 'amount
of reason, that the present student'
body is. less loyal, or at least less dem-
onstrative, than the student bodies of
the past. It is not to be wondered atE
It is to be sincerely hoped that the
Convocation idea, "the Michigan
Hour" plan, wrill rec eive the attention
it merits, that definite and frequent
dlates; will be set for meetings of the,
students and faculty to sing Michigan
song,,s and hear Mi1chigan speeches by
