TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 1914.
Night Editor-T. Hawley Tapping.
There will be an important meeting
of the business Staff at 4:15 p. m. to.
day.
HOW?
From everywhere-from the four
corners of this expansive country-
we are again gathered together for the
pursuit of knowledge, of power, of
friends, of education. In a word, we
seek culture.
The lazy, restful, luxurious vacation
hours are hardly yet memories. It was
only yesterday that we tore ourselves
away from home, and its whirl of ac-
tivities. We-are still dizzy.
But there's work ahead. Let us
cease our dreaming.
AND LO! BEHOLD!
There appears another "aristocracy
within an aristocracy" in this human
world of ours-an aristocracy of auto-
mobiles.
Who is it that has notemarked the
haughty disdain of the six cylindered
palace, with. its electric lights, its self-
starting apparatus, its one-man top,
its break-down steering wheel, its ele-
gant and luxurious cushions? Who
has not noticed it nose out and pass,
with noiseless scorn and pity, its less
modern one-lunged, bumptious, chug-
ging brother?
We wonder If the contempt of the
one and the hatred of the other, find
any response in the hearts and faces
of their human owners? If there is
any reflection in the public mind?
We are inclined to inquire about
your car, before settling upon your
popular "social" status-inthis human
world of ours.

Beating Back
I've loafed for a week and a fraction;
I smole me a lazy man's smirk;
'Twas gay recreation,
A ripping vacation,
And now---it's "back to my work."
The doll,she was dear and attractive,
For her e'en a Trojan would shirk;
Now it's nix on the dollies,
The dances and follies,
For it's "Billy, get back to your work."

Forty-eight days until June!"
