tion, necessary as it may be, can ilt

It takes many years for ai tree to
reach its fuill growth anid everyono of
those remnaining on the campus is
doubly valuable and should be caireful-
ly looked after each year.
This nlecessary destruction is the re-
sult of neglect in past years. Until
recently no attention was paid to the
trees and consequently the scale at-
racked and destroyed some of than.
This is in line with the general lais-
se-faire policy that has been preva-
lent ait Michigan~ until recently. The
cost in this instance is the loss of
some much needed and beautiful trees.
To make good this loss, as far as it
is possible to do so, the authoritie s
1 ught to plant young and sound trees
~o, replace the fallen ones. This wvill
provide for the future campus.

Memlbers of some of the social or-
ganifzations who recently decried th.e
mnid-w eekly and Saturdlay night As-
semblies, were in evidence during va-
cation week and both of these gather-
ings pro-ed to be excellent dances.
As usual no chaperon was prent and
a number of people, who had no cont-
nection with the university, but whose
Social standing was every bit asgood
'took an active part. The dancing wvas
g>Enerally of a better variety than seen
atl class or organization parties.
All of this only serves to show that
the girls are fully capable of attending
these Assom~blies and mialng of them
perf'ect dances. In the last analysis, it
is up to the girls to say what kind o?'
dances and dancing shall prevail, for
it is the girls who set the standard.
Akbscee, from Pharisical reasons, Is
not only foolish and childish, but iii
he end it only results in poorer d!,nc-
in g, This is not an age when anyonie
can withdraw into the quiet of a con-
vent or any other place of seclusion
because things are not as they should
be, but rather, a time when all should
go forth and strive, by example and
word, to better and raise conditions.
The non-attendance rule recently
passed is little above the inane and
cong;ratulations should be extended
to those organizations whose members
were broad and far sighted enough
to laugh at such silly proposed legis-
lation.
