Faculty Recital.
Miss Ethel Smurthwaite and Louis
Cogswell of the School of Music facul-
ty gave a joint recital last evening in
Frieze Memorial hall. The hall was
well filled with an audience which evi-
denced enthusiastic appreciation of a
really fine and enjoyable program.
Miss Smurthwaite brings to her
singing not only a finely-tempered
voice of beautiful quality, but an inti-
mate feeling for the spirit of her
songs. Mr. Cogswell's voice is roman-
tic in coloring, with fullness and depth
of tone; and he sings with much sym-
pathy. The solo and duet numbers
were equally well given; and the ac-
companists performed effectively their
part of a delightful evening.
