CURRENT RUMOR
Diminutive Inf ilder Reports That He
Will Be Ca Hand At Train.
ing Time.
CALL IS ISSUED FOR TODAY.
Rumors to the effect that "Shorty"
McMillan will not turn out for base-
ball this spring are entirely unfounded>
according to the diminutive infielder
himself.
"There's nothing to it," said Shorty,
"I have been intending to get out
right along. My knee may bother me
and I may be forced to quit the game,
but if all goes well I will certainly try
for my old berth on the infield."
Baseball practice is scheduled to
commence this afternoon when Captain
Mitchell has ordered battery men and
veterans to meet Coach Rickey in the
cage. Rickey is due to arrive this
morning, after a visit at his home in
Portsmouth, O., and it is expected that
baseball work will be taken up with
a rush immediately after his arrival.
MU IC AND DRAMA
"Bright Eyes."
In these days of suggestive comedies
and plays that may, at the best be call-
ed doubtful, when the public taste
seems to run to the mellower side of
the theater, it is more or less daring
for a manager to present a musical
play which is entirely without a sug-
gestion of coarseness or vulgarity. Yet
this is what Jos. M. Gaites claims to
have done in his stupendous musical
comedy production, "Bright Eyes,"
which will be seen at the New Whitney
theater Saturday, matinee and night,
February 24, with Cecil Lean and Flor-
ence Holbrook in the star parts, sup-
ported by a strong company. Mr.
Gaites explains his daring by the state-
ment that he believes the public is be-
ginning to tire of vulgarity and is
ready again for musical plays that de-
pend for their entertaining qualities
entirely on clean bright fun, catchy
music and beautiful stage pictures.

igan Daily.
