man, strong and clean, he was a warm
friend and a genial acquaintance. He
was of the workers, giving without
stint of his energy and ability to carry'
on the movements that are aimed for
the betterment of the university.
Thuhactive in varied fields of cam-I
'pus endeavor he gave of his best to the
Union. He saw the Union's possibili-
ties as a wonderful power for the good
of the university. He was happy and
willing to work long hours that the
future students in the university might
enjoy social advantages and clubhouse
accommodations that he could not
hope to have. He was unselfish.. Of
these there are all too few._ The de-
parture of such a one must, ever be
keenly felt.
A Trip for the Opera.
Seemingly Rameses has awakened
for the last time as the Detroit alumni
report that it "will -be impossible for'
them to finance the production of the
opera in their city this year. The loss
of the trip is regrettable in more ways
than one. It leaves the opera as the
only one of the university activities
of its size that is not in part' recon3-
pensed for the time and energy expend-
ed on it. The athletic teams of course
travel, the musical, clubs are but now
returning from- what should have, beeii
one of *the pleasantest trips ever taken
by the combined clubs, and the comedy
club ,will in all likelihood again, pro-
duce its play= in Detroit this winter.!
It is to be hoped that another year'
will see some definite arrangements
started in time to insure the trip and
that it may be an annual affair for
those who give of their time and en-
ergy so unstintingly to make the, opera
a success

Robert Tipping.
It is no doubt true that he ha s iot
learned the lesson of life who has notj
experienced and, surmounted a great
ssorrow., It is also true that we should
all face death and witness death' with
courage and should know of a certain-
ty that no evil can happen to a good
m~an either in life or in death. But
when one is bereaved of his father, as
Robert Tipping has been, it is hard in-
deed to find comfort in the encoturage-
