SCRIMMAGE WORK
FOR FRESH SQUAD
Two Team Opposed Each Other
In Short Period of
Actual Play
SEVERAL PLAYERS SHOW CLASS.
The candidates for the All-Fresh
eleven scrimmaged for the first time,'
yesterday afternoon. Coach Cole
chose 22 of the most promising play-
ers for his two teams. The team
which he lined up first had it on the.
other eleven both on offense and de-
fense. Cole pointed out defects in'
the play of both elevens and saw to it
that the men on the side lines follow-
ed each play carefully.
The backfield of the first team chos-
en was made up of three lads from the
upper peninsula, who would appear
to have excellent chances to fight it
out for the backfield positions. Col-
lette, formerly ~of Menominee High
and later of Beloit college, appeared
at left half. Smith, who captained
a strong eleven at Hancock High,
played full, and Hewitt of Escanaba

Kellar, the old Detroit Central
quarter handled this team. Bushnell,
formerly of Shaw High, Cleveland,
directed the play of the opposing forc-
es. Bushnell shows promise but his
team did not work behind him to the
best advantage. Tully, formerly of D.
U. S., played a good game at tackle
for the first team lined up.
CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD WILL
BE CALLED OUT NEXT WEEK.
Captain Beardsley of the cross coun-
try team has announced that he will
issue a call for preliminary practice
early next week. Most of the old
members of the cross country club
are back in school, and with so many
veterans on the squad, the captain
hopes to develop a good team,. He
urges all new candidates to watch for
the first call for practice.
ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION HAS
MEMBERSHIP OF ABOUT 1800,
Thirteen hundred is the approximate
figure the membership of the Athlet-
ic Association has reached. The num-
ber of students having joined the as-
sociation is about equal to the num-
ber having joined a year ago
at this time, but it is still about
500 short of the expected member-
ship.
