IThe New .Directory.
We understand that the Students'
Directory for the current year is to
make its appearance before long. A
suggestion to the editors of that useful
little publication may be timely. It
is apropos the discouraging inaccura-
-ies which have sometimes graced the
pages of the book in the years that are
z'ast, and the possibility of decreasing
he same. We presume that the new
System of procuring names and ad-
ir~sses through the clerk's offices will
:lo much in this direction. But as a
further means of accomplishing the
same end we would commend the prac-
ice of the university authorities in
compiling name and city lists for the
annual catalogue and the announce-
mnets,-the posting of these lists on
lie bulletins of the various depart-
ments for correction by students them-
selves before a set date. This plan
places the burden of inaccuracies
where it belongs,, upon the student
himself. We see no reason why such a

system could not be adapted and ap-
plied to the compilation of the directo-
ry, and we pass the suggestion along.
The Band ,again.
In the news columns of this iss se
appears a request for informatioix
from an "inquisitive" communicant.
While we have not taken unto our-
selves the guardianship of the band
we wish to, avoid any friction in th(;
further collection' of funds for what we
feel to be a most worthy project.
The most apparent answer to "in-
quisitive" is that he does not seem to
be in possession of the facts. Last
year the students gave according to
their generosity and ability, as they,
are doing this. Last year many gave
as high as fifty cents. This year many
are giving but ten cents and there are
practically no subscriptions of over
twenty-five cents., Last year approx-
imately six hundred dollars was rais-
ed by the student body. This year ful-
ly five hundred dollars should be rail-
ed and as the subscriptions are averag-
ing much below twenty-five cents, the
campus over, a large number will have
to be reached to raise that amount.
Neither is the relation between. the
distances to Penn and Cornell respect-
ively anywhere near what our com-
municant understands.
Five hundred dollars will but pay
transportation expenses leaving the
bandsmen to pay their own hotel bills.
If any small surplus should by any
strange chance be accumulated we have
no doubt that it could be wisely ex-
pended in the purchase of new music
for the spring concerts.
town calf
Ever since the week end, when o. s.
"Chink" Myser sojourned in our town,
we have been striving to organize the
sentiments that surged as we meditat-
ed upon him as principal of the high
school. We are frank to admit they
are inexpressable. "Chink" as a ped-
agogue must be seen to be understood.
We GIve It Up.
.Dear Ed :-What's the use of having
900 coeds if we have to sew on our
buttons?
Mere Man.
What would you rather do than take
a nice, quiet trip up the Huron one of
these evening? B-r-r!
Officer Call ,a Barber:
Dear Ed:-I voted for Mr. Blish as
President of the Union. Why does he
now insult the high, office by nursing
into being such an excuse for a mus-
tache?
