band serves the student body and the
students are indebted to it for ser-
vices rendered througout the year.
The plan suggested in the commun-
ication published in yesterday's Daily
is impractical. University Hall seats
less than 3,000 and standing room can-
not be sold. An admission' fee of ten
cents would net less than $300 and it
will cost close to $500 to pay the car
fare of twenty-five bandsmen, leaving
them to pay for their own meals and
lodging as they were forced to do at
Philadelphia last year. No mass
meeting can be held before the Syra-
cuse game so that there will be no
opportunity to raise funds for the
band through such means. Some gen-
eral collegction from the student body
is neccessary if the band is to make
the trip. A request to give money for
such a purpose is not begging. It is
a privilege to show appreciation of
the work of the band.

bulldoze that duet they are welcome
to any results they may attain.
-Now comes word that o. s. Frank
Bechman is feeding on the deep stuff
provided by the Sargeant School of
Acting, Manhattan, U. S. A. The next
time we tour Broadway we expect to
see Bech feasting with the headliners.
,Our contemplated idea of the abso-
lute zero of tightness is the guy who
wheezes when he coughs up a few of
his parent's jitneys for the band that
plays for him from October till June.
To judge from the "To Rent" ads,
what a tremendous number, of "pleas-
ant rooms, southern exposure, in a
modern house, one-half block from
campus," are begging for occupants!

Pay the Piper".
The University Band is an 'institu-
tion which we appreciate in its activi-
ty, but we have a habit of sidestepping
our responsibilities of its support. The
band merits support and cannot exist
without it. Financial heli will do
more than anything else to make the
band bigger aid better and more than
ever an organization of which we may.
well be proud.
No one has ever denied the fact that
the men deserve at least one trip each
year, yet there continues the annual
howl when a popular appeal is made'
to the student body for financial assist-
ance. The band should be sent to
Cornell. It is anticipated that a rate
will be secured, wNhich will enable a
large number of rooters to make the
trip east. When Michigan makes her,
initial appearance on Percy field she.
should wear her best dress, and noth-
ing will do more to make a strong im-
pression in support of the team than
the Varsity band.
The band cannot go to Cornell 'un-
less sent by the student body, as it
has no other means of support. The

With the score standing 0 to 0, the
game between the senior and 'junior
engineers was call -d yesterday after-
noon at the end rcf the third quarter
when darkness made further play im-
possible. During the three quarters of
play the fight was a pretty one, in spite
of the fact that the juniors were great-
ly outweighed.
The tie will be played off Thursday
at 4:05. An effort was' made to begin
the games earlier but there is a uni-
versity ruling stating that no athletic
game can be started before 4 o'clock
on a week day. The officials will be
Karl Matthews, Clarence Sessions and
Loren Robinson.
No game will be played today but
two games will be played on Thurs-
day afternoon, when, beside the engi-
neer game; the pharmics and the jun-
for laws will play to enter the semi-
finals. If the teams are on the field
by 4:05. the game will be' started at
that time, but if not they will be strat-
ed at 4:15 The officials for the phar-
mic-law game will be Harvey Corn-
wall, Thomas Dorah and Rufus Siple.
Thursday at 12:05 there will be a
meeting of the managers and captains
of the teams still in the series at the
Athletic Association offices. It is im-
perative that every team be repre-
sented at this meeting by both officials.
