Beer ad voted most
sexist in contest

A flyer entitled "Why Beer is
Better Than Women," found in a
University dormitory, won the local
competition for the most sexist ad -
vertising.
The Ann Arbor Citizen's Advi -
sory Committee on Rape Preven -
tion sponsored the third annual Sex -
ism in Advertising contest designed
to better examine the images of wo -
men presented in the media.
CACORP holds a competition
each year for the most sexist adver -
tisement, both locally and nation -

ally.
In the national competition, a
Georges Marciano advertisement
won with more than 200 of the 350
votes received. McCabe said she and
the other members of the CACORP
were in the process of drafting Mar -
ciano a letter informing him of his
dubious honor.
This year's local competition,
which is intended to include adver -
tisements from the entire Ann Ar -
bor community, featured only Uni -
versity ads.

NAGS, said the group has picketed
the Big Ten store-every Saturday for
several weeks by carrying signs and
distributing leaflets, which call for
an economic boycott of the party

Brian Chambers, one of NAGS
chief organizers, said the group now
has a mailing list of about 500 Ann
Arbor residents and holds weekly 4
meetings in members' homes.
Chambers said Estes told the
group they were having a negative
impact on their business.
