A FORMAL presentation of the grant
will be made before the 23rd annual
Stokes benefit game tonight at Kut-
'sher's Country Club.

help pay the medical bills of Stokes, a
former National Basketball Association
player who was stricken with en-
cephalitis in 1958. Since his death in
1970, proceeds from the game have

Duran rests
CLEVELAND (AP)-Roberto
Duran, whose "hands of "stone" may
have taken him a rung closer to his goal
of a third fight with Sugar Ray
Leonard, headed back to his native
Panama yesterday for a week's rest
before training for a fight next month.
"He'll be back in a week," promoter
Don King said. "We don't know who
he'll fight ... but he's ranked to go. He's
in good shape. We think it will be a
prelude to a world boxing title."
The 30-year-old Duran's immediate
goal is the World Boxing Council junior
middleweight title of Wilfred Benitez.
King has offered Benitez $1 million to
defend the title against Duran, and the
promoter hopes to schedule the fight
later in the year.
Duran's eventual goal, however, is a
third fight with Sugar Ray Leonard.
King is lining up Duran's schedule so he
could meet Leonard next year. Leonard
holds the World Boxing Association
version of the junior midleweight title.

LOS ANGELES (AP)-- L. Ben
Lewis, the Wells Fargo Bank officer
who vanished after an alleged $21
million embezzlement scheme was un-
covered, pleaded guilty yesterday as
part of a pleabargain in exchange for
his testimony against boxing promoter
Harold Rossfields Smith.

The dapper Lewis, who stood before a
federal judge wearing a black suit and
bright red handkerchief, admitted he
conspired with Smith to defraud Wells
Fargo in a complicated scheme which
involved juggling of the bank's internal
accounts.
LEWIS ALSO pleaded -guilty to two

counts of misappropriating a total of
$1.8 million in Wells Fargo funds.
"Mr. Lewis has made a complete
statement," said assistant U.S. attor-
ney Dean Allison.
"He has provided the government
with documents used ip this embez-
zlement scheme."
