when they want to let the record-buying
public know how good they are in con-
cert? A. Release a live record. Q. What
do rock groups do when they run out of
good songs-given that they have
already released a greatest hits album?
A. Release a live album. It's hard to say
how much either of these con=

siderations had to do with the release of
this album, but unfortunately, this
double record doesn't accomplish much
on any level.
As a large club/small concert band,
The Jukes are almost unmatched. Ob-
noxious Johnny Lyon (not to be con-
fused with rotten Johnny Lydon) knows
how to handle his band and a crowd.
But on Reach Up, Johnny only sounds
like a loudmouth brat who happens to
also sing. His comments between songs
add nothing.
THE BAND, which is con-
sistently well-mixed in con-
cert is totally unbalanced on
the record. The bass and
drums control, until the horns blast on
the scene. And where is the guitar?
Well, it got lost somewhere inthe mix,
which can be half-blamed on Southside.
There are several strong positive
aspects to the album. The four sides in-
clude a smattering of songs from all of
the Jukes' albums along with a Sam
