Financing close for new theme park Top officials knew interrogation tactics

LANSING (AP) - A company
that wants to build a theme park

ting closer to completing financing
for the project.

based Axiom Entertainment said
yesterday that the company is
scheduling updates for next week
with state officials about the Craw-
ford County project's financial
backing. Crosson said he is "cau-

will have written agreements for
all of the project's financing within
two weeks.
The development and construc-
tion of the park would cost about
$161 million.
The deal also would include
the sale of land, including some
1,700 acres of state-owned prop-
erty near Grayling, with total cost
estimated at about $6 million.
Crosson attended a meeting
yesterday of the state's Natural

Resources Commission.
Natural Resources won't sell the
state-owned land until it is com-
fortable financing exists for the
entire project.
Crosson said he hopes a deal will
be in place so the commission will
be ready to vote on the land sale as
early as next month.
The park potentially would
include roller coasters, a water
park, snowmobile and race car
tracks and other facilities.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bush
administration officials from Vice
President Dick Cheney on down
signed off on using harsh inter-
rogation techniques against sus-
pected terrorists after asking the
Justice Department to endorse
their legality, The Associated Press
has learned.
The officials also took care
to insulate President Bush from
a series of meetings where CIA
interrogation methods, including

waterboarding, which simulates
drowning, were discussed and
ultimately approved.
A former senior U.S. intelligence
official familiar with the meetings
described them yesterdayto the AP
to confirm details first reported by
ABC News on Wednesday. The offi-
cial spoke on condition of anonym-
ity because he was not authorized
to publicly discuss the issue.
Between 2002 and 2003, the
Justice Department issued several

memos from its Office of Legal
Counsel that justified using the
interrogation tactics, including
ones that critics call torture.
"If you looked at the timing *f
the meetings and the memos you'd,
see a correlation," the former offi
cial said. Those who attended tlhe
dozens of meetings agreed that
"there'd need to be a legal opin-
ion on the legality of these tactics"
before using them on al-Qaida
detainees, he said.

For Friday, April 11, 2008
ARIES
(March 21 to April 19)
Try to steal some time just for yourself
today. (You need some quiet privacy.)
What can you do to escape from the
crazy demands of the outside world? Do
something to pamper your body and
soul!
TAURUS
(April 20 toMay 20)
Try to be objective in your discussions
with others. Because of the placement of
the Moon, you're quite inclined to take
everything personally! (Oops.)
GEMINI
(May 21to June 20)
Today you'll identify with your pos-
sessions or whatever you value more
than usual. Perhaps you feel proud of
something and you want to show it off?
CANCER
(June 21to July 22)
With the Moon in your sign today, you
feel a strong need to belong to others or
to relate to friends and loved ones. You
might even want to mother or nurture
them in some way.
LEG
(July 23 to Aug. 22)
Time spent alone in beautiful sur-
roundings will make you feel better
today. You don't feel too much like
socializing right now.
VIRGO
(Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
You feel protective about a friend
today. Because of this, you'll play a sup-
portive role for someone. It's also a good
day to examine your long-term goals.
LIBRA
(Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
Something about your private life
might be on public display today. Yikes!
(Check your zipper.) You might want to
help others through your job or through
your influence with someone in power.

SCORPIO
(Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
Any kind of study, mental journey or
actual physical travel will please you
today. You want to expand your hor-
zons. You want to escape the drudgery of
your daily routine!
SAGITTARIUS
(Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
Unusually powerful, intense people
might attract your attention today. Or
perhaps you can't escape them!
CAPRICORN
(Dec. 22to Jan. 19)
If you have any conflicts with others
today, they'll be more emotional than
usual. That's because the Moon is oppo-
site your sign, and it easily triggers a
knee-jerk reaction in you.
AQUARIUS
(Jan. 20to Feb. 18)
Work on getting better organized
today. Set your house in order. De-clut-
ter things around you. Think about what
you do to improve your health.
PISCES
(Feb. 19to March 20)
Romance is quiteemotional today.
You feel playful, prankish and in the
mood for fun. Enjoy good times with
children. Catch a movie or watch some
sports.
YOU BORN TODAY Basically,
you're wise. You have a desire to help
others. (You want to make the world a
better place.) These core values coupled
with your diplomatic skills make you an
excellent representative or ombudsman.
You don't need to be the star because
you put the welfare of everyone before
your own. This year you will learn some-
thing important. (Perhaps it requires
study.)
