The deal also would include the sale of land, including some 1,700 acres of state-owned prop- erty near Grayling, with total cost estimated at about $6 million. Crosson attended a meeting yesterday of the state's Natural Resources Commission. Natural Resources won't sell the state-owned land until it is com- fortable financing exists for the entire project. Crosson said he hopes a deal will be in place so the commission will be ready to vote on the land sale as early as next month. The park potentially would include roller coasters, a water park, snowmobile and race car tracks and other facilities. WASHINGTON (AP) - Bush administration officials from Vice President Dick Cheney on down signed off on using harsh inter- rogation techniques against sus- pected terrorists after asking the Justice Department to endorse their legality, The Associated Press has learned. The officials also took care to insulate President Bush from a series of meetings where CIA interrogation methods, including waterboarding, which simulates drowning, were discussed and ultimately approved. A former senior U.S. intelligence official familiar with the meetings described them yesterdayto the AP to confirm details first reported by ABC News on Wednesday. The offi- cial spoke on condition of anonym- ity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss the issue. Between 2002 and 2003, the Justice Department issued several memos from its Office of Legal Counsel that justified using the interrogation tactics, including ones that critics call torture. "If you looked at the timing *f the meetings and the memos you'd, see a correlation," the former offi cial said. Those who attended tlhe dozens of meetings agreed that "there'd need to be a legal opin- ion on the legality of these tactics" before using them on al-Qaida detainees, he said.
