A dollar worth leaving behind PROTEST IN MANDALAY
One of many horrible aspects of
Sunday is doing the laundry you've
been meaning to do since Monday.
That's the situation my roommate
Nora and I found ourselves in after
returning from a late South Quad
brunch two days ago. Discussing
our fiscalsituation -neither one of
us had Entree Plus, and Iowed her
a dollar - we were both surprised
to see a dollar bill lying in the dirt
outside, blowing in the wind. As
soon as our hands reached for it,
though, we both stopped.
A gross, brown, substance had
been folded inside the bill. We
looked at each other and decided
together that whatever that was
wasn't a load of wash. A minute
later, though, another dollar bill
- unfolded - appeared to our
left, wafting open with what we
suddenly realized was poop. Yes,
someone had wiped his ass with
two dollar bills, and was prob-
ably watching us at that very
moment. a
But neither Nora or I were wor-
riedaboutbeingwatched. She said,
"Well, that one's not that bad...",
I visualized myself standing
over the communal bathroom
sink, prodding the dollar with a
pencil and soap to rinse out the
fecal matter. Fortunately, we again
came upon the simultaneous real-
ization that we all have limits.
SARAH LYNNE THELEN
As I squeezed through the
arcade of art rocker types I heard
an effete young man with a pom-
padour proclaim: "I want to dig a
trench and put myself in it."
Someone exhaled a sympathet-
ic puff of smoke, but I had walked
too far to hear a response.

at Ambrosia
I was taking a detour down
Maynard Street, dodging a
car coming out of the parking
structure and about to pass the
actively hipster Ambrosia Caf6.
The sidewalk outside was lined
on both sides by patrons of the
coffee shop - they looked like
a fair representative sample of
Ann Arbor's less-generic youth
culture.
I noticed people stopping
outside my house to look at it. I
thought maybe something was
wrong with the house, but when
they kept moving on, I stopped
thinking about it.
But then a man stopped in front
of my house and actually took
a photo of it. Who takes photos
of other people's houses? Then I
