The sex scene: It can make you stiffly
grab your arm-rests while at the theater
with your significant other, or it can
make you grab something else (we're
talking about a wanger). It is a curious
part of any movie, because usually, it has
little to do with the plot and is included to
get 13-year-old boys to go the movie.
Some of the folowing choices follow this
pattern. However, there are a few gems in
which a sex scene is the most important
thing that can happen. And no, "Dirty
Dancing" is not and never will be on the
list.
10. Kentucky Fried Movie - While
casually watching the late night news, a
couple begins to touch each other in all
the right places, capturing the attention of
the newscaster. As the couple gets more
intimate, the newscaster on TV brings in
his co-workers to show them the dirty
deeds of their viewers.
9. A Clockwork Orange - You
must remember Alex's romp with two
young "birds" that he "sobirat"-ed. The
scene is played in fast motion, and it is
accompanied by a sped-up version of the
William Tell Overture (a.k.a. the Lone
Ranger's theme song). It's about as un-
sexy as sex gets, but it's damn funny.
8. American Psycho -- As Phil
Collins' "Sussudio" echoes through a
sterile apartment, Patrick Bateman, pur-
veyor of mergers, acquisitions, business
cards and the occasional visit to Dorsia,
engages in a menage-a-trois with two not
quite blonde prostitutes. During the sexu-
al frenzy, Bateman stares at himself nar-
cissistically as he flexes his muscles in
the mirrors placed in the room.
7. Risky Business - The most mem-
orable scene in this film may be Tom
Cruise sliding across his living room
floor, rocking out to some old time rock
'n roll in his undies, but the other unfor-
gettable scene is the subway sex scene
between Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay.
With Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" in
the background, this scene exemplifies
the classic hedonistic teen flicks of the
time.
6. Terminator - How many sexual
encounters result in an offspring powerful
enough to save the world as we know it?
One? Maybe three? Kyle Reese and
Sarah Conner come together in tender
ecstasy to produce a little hellion that
both destroy and befriend different ver-
sions ofArnie S.
5. Body Heat - Imagine a 27-year-
old Kathleen Turner in an empty house in
a steamy Florida town, wearing almost
nothing. Now imagine William Hurt with
a sleazy moustache and a raging libido.
This film noir style detective thriller has
Hurt throwing a chair through a window
to get to the manipulative femme fatale,
and you an sense that he is completely
under her control right from the start.
4. 9 112 Weeks -Yeah, so Kim
Basinger, in all her pre-Vicki Vale glory,
snuggling up to a tub of honey and other
assorted condiments is a wet dream with
a side of delicious chocolates. This scene
caused disillusionment among hony
teenagers who realized that misused pud-
ding can lead to a rash as well as a
severely cold case of feet (and showers).
3. Out of sight - The playful but

hypnotizing scene between George
Clooney and a pre-J.Lo (and pre-suck)
Jennifer Lopez inter-cuts between a
scene of the unlikely couple at a bar and
a few minutes later, disrobing by her bed.
The subdued, bluesy score by David
Holmes give the scene class, and then
there's the fact that Lopez is just really,
really hot.
2. Wild Things - Who could forget
those fun-filled, youthful fancies, frolick-
ing in a hotel room with Neve Cambell
and Denise Richards making out with
Matt Dillon. Yeah, many young men
came of age while the ladies made out in
the pool, or washed cars, or just stood
there with that come hither look that
screamed "Come take me, you wayward
Daily Arts Writer, come take me!" Man,
that movie's great.
1. Mulholand Dr. - Lesbian sex
scenes have been projected on the big
screen for several years, but none are
more memorable than the consummation
of Betty (Naomi Watts, "Sleepwalkers")
and Rita (Laura Elena Harring, "Exit to
Eden") in last year's erotic thriller "Mul-
holland Dr." Director David Lynch cre-
ates a scene that is beautiful, emotional
and disturbing all at the same time.
