The Michigan Daily: Hi. I'm Louie Meizlish
with the Michigan Daily and I'm conducting a
random student interview. Would you like to par-
ticipate?
Random: Sure.
TMD: OK. So what have you been doing late-.
ly?
R: What have I been doing lately what do you
mean?
TMD: Just, whatever.
R: What? In terms of my day?
TMD: Sure.
R: I'm on the crew team so I've been practic-
ing, I haven't been doing a lot of homework
because I'm in the Art School and we don't really
have a lot of homework. I've been catching up on
the news ... I've been walking around. Definitely
doing a lot of walking.
TMD: Yeah. You do that in college.
R: Yeah. I've been getting a lot of coffee.
TMD: Have you been doing a lot of sleeping?
R: Let's see, well last night I did because I was
watching the Michael Jackson special.
TMD: Oh yeah? Was that good?
R: Well I fell asleep during it, if that gives a

hint as to anything.
TMD: He's been around a while.
R: Yeah. So I fell asleep during that and I woke
up at 11:00 and then took a shower and went to
bed. I've recently been having a lot of sleep but
normally I do not get a lot of sleep and I try and
catch up on the weekends and sometimes it hap-
pens and sometimes it doesn't.
TMD: Is that where the coffee comes in?
R: Yeah. That's definitely where the coffee
comes m. But this weekend I couldn't sleep in
because my parents were here.
TMD: Yeah. Are you a freshman or sopho-
more?
R: I'm a freshman.
TMD: So you're on the crew team. So you row
a boat basically?
R: Well we're off the water right now because
the lake's going to freeze over so we're erging
right now.
TMD: You're what?
R: Erging. E-R-G. In the Erg Room - it's the
machine that you row on. And we do that five
afternoons a week for an hour and a half. We get
pretty sweaty.
TMD: So when the lake doesn't freeze over?
R: We row on thebwater from the end of
September to about a week ago.
TMD: Where's "the water?"
R: It's Lake Belleville, about 20 min-
utes away.
TMD: Are you going to vote in the
MSA elections or have you voted?
R: I have not voted. But I just received
something tonight, a little hot pink sheet
telling me to vote, so I guess I should log
on and vote. I'm just a lazy bum and I
don't see if my vote really counts or not.
TMD: Have you heard about this fall
break?
R: Yes I have and I'm strongly in
agreement for that one. Definitely.
TMD: What would you do during
those two days?
R: During those two days? Well, I'd
probably want to go home and see all my
friends if it was at the same time as our
break. Or if I were to stay here I'd defi-
nitely catch up on sleep. I probably
wouldn't work.
TMD: You know I'm not really with
the Daily. I just call up people and start
conversations.
R: Are you lying?
TMD: No, I mean, yeah I'm really
with the Daily. I'm filling in for the guy
that normally does it.
R: If you're lying now I'm going to
get really angry.
TMD: No. I'm serious now. How am
I doing?
R: I think you're doing pretty good.
TMD: Really?
R: I think people like to talk about
themselves.
TMD: Yeah. I noticed.
R: Yeah. Have you noticed me? I like
to talk but ...
TMD: Yeah. Let me guess where
you're from. Are you from the New
York-New Jersey area?
R: Why do you say that?
TMD: You kind of talk that way.
R: I'm from Baltimore, Maryland, but
my parents are from New York and I get
my accent from them.
TMD: East Coast.
R: East Coast, exactly. I was actually
born in New York but I don't really live
there now.
