The Michigan Daily - Weekend, etc. Mag

T he Fleetwood is oneof the
only places in town that
caters to people seeking a
cup of coffee and a place to stay
warm along with the tempeh
seeking university crowd. It is
Ann Arbor's East meets West
greasy spoon. The best thing
about the Fleetwood is the
ambiance, and that it's open all
night. At two in the morning the
place is packed. But be careful
of the bathroom downstairs, the
only downside. Phd's and peo-
ple with schizophrenia can sit
down and argue the finer points
of life. Everyone has their
Fleetwood story. Mine is that
the waitress threatened to hurt
me if I took her picture. She is
not in these images. Or that the
man sitting next to me explained
that he was the messiah. On the
other side a history graduate stu-
dent waded quickly through a
thick volume. Disparate paths
intersect at the Fleetwood, over
coffee, cigarettes and hippie
hash.
