The Rev. Al Sharpton's presence in Ann Arbor this
weekend helped to boost the morale of SCC members.

Tree Town Drum plays honor songs at a rally organized by SCC members. Mo
the rally on the first floor of the Union.

After 14 days, stress has set in for some SCC members. Diego
Bernal has not left the Union since the beginning of the occupation
and will be forced to withdraw from his classes this semester.

N ot since the 1960s and 70s has the
University of Michigan experienced the type
of student activism that has been felt throughout
campus during the past few weeks. First, mem-
bers of the Students of Color Coalition took over
the tower of the Michigan Union, then in the
next week, members of Students Organizing for
Labor and Economic Equality stormed the office
of LSA Dean Shirley Neuman in an anti-sweat-
shop protest.
While SOLE has had their primary demands
met, SCC members continue to occupy the tower
in hopes of ridding Michigamua's presence on
the seventh floor.
"We ask for nothing from the University
administration but true and sincere equity," said
SCC member Joe Reilly. "Allow the Michigan
Union to live up to its current role as a unifying
force for all students: make the Tower a public
space."
Discussions between the SCC, Michigamua
and the University administration continue in an
attempt to resolve the situation.
SCC members said they will remain vigilant and
stay in the tower until their demands are met,
what ever it takes.
