CAMPUS CINEMA

FILMS OPENING FRIDAY:

GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS Hi! I'm David Fucking Mamet! I'm David

again and again and again. At Showcase: 12:30, 2:50, 5:10, 7:40, 10, 12:10.
HERO We can't even begin to tell you why I this movie is such a complete
waste of time. This is definitely Stephen Frears' worst movie. Dustin
Hoffman's spectacular performance, the film's only redeeming feature, is
wasted. At Briarwood: 10:05, 12:20, 2:40, 5, 7:30, 10, 12:10. At Show-
case: 1:20, 4:10, 7:15, 9:50, 12:10.
THE MIGHTY DueCs This is not an animated feature, though it's from
Disney and stars Emilio Estevez, an actor whose main accomplishment in
his career so far has been marrying Paula Abdul. At Briarwood: 10:05, 12,
2, 4, 7, 9, 11:15 At Showcase: 12:10, 2:30, 4:50, 7:15, 9:40, 11:50.
MR. BASEBALL Oh God, Tom Selleck plays baseball in Japan. Director
Fred Schepisi has come a long way since "A Cry in the Dark." A long way
down. At Showcase: 12:20, 2:40, 5, 7:35, 10:05, 12:20.

Dustin Hoffman is utterly wasted in Stephen Frears' bomb-to-be "Hero."
FILMS HOLDING:
BOB ROBERTS Tim Robbins: genius or just the latest in a series of self-
serious, annoying actors who think they can direct? Answer: somewhere in
between. At Showcase: 12:30, 5:25, 7:55.
BLADE RUNNER Oh boy, it's the director's cut. Maybe there was a reason
they left some scenes out. At Showcase: 2:50, 10:15, 12:30.
CAPTAIN RON If you want to see a good Kurt Russell movie, rent "Used
Cars"; if you want to see a bad one, see anything since, including this one
with Martin Short. Sadly enough, it's making money. At Showcase: 12:20,
2:30, 4:40, 7:10, 9:20, 11:30.
HUSBANDS AND WIVES Woody may have made a mess of his personal
life, but this is one of his best films since "Hannah and her Sisters." Judy
Davis is the best. thing to come out of Australia since Foster's Lager. At
Briarwood: 10, 12:05, 2:15, 4:30, 7, 9:15, 11:45; at Showcase: 12:15, 2:40,
5, 7:30, 9:55, 12:10.
INNOCENT BLOOD John Landis' latest is actually better than "An Ameri-
can Werewolf in London," and Anne Parrillaud is still mighty cool. At
Showcase: 1:35, 4:20, 7:10, 9:35, 11:55.
THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS Well, after months of shuffling the release
date, Hollywood finally lets Daniel Day-Lewis's first fihn since his Oscar
win for "My Left Foot" see the light of day. And guess what, it's really
good. At Briarwood: 10, 12:10, 2:30, 4:50, 7:15, 9:40, 11:55 At Showcase:
12:10, 2:35, 4:55, 7:25, 9:50, 12:05.
MR. SATURDAY NIGHT Billy Crystal: genius or just. the latest in a series
of self-serious, annoying actors who think they can direct? Answer:
somewhere in between. (See story, page 8.) At Ann Arbor: 12:15, 2:30,
4:45, 7:20, 9:45; At Showcase: 1:25, 4:20, 7:35, 10:10, 12:30.
RoaCy HORROR PICTURE SHOw No advance screening; not yet re-
viewed. At Briarwood: 11:30.
SARAFINA! Adaptation of the popular Broadway musical about South
Africa. With Whoopi Goldberg. The best movie since "Salaam Bombay!"
to contain an exclamation point in the title. At Ann Arbor: 12, 2:15, 4:55,
7:05, 9:15.
SCHOOL TIES It's got a bunch of hunks but a serious theme too, dealing
with anti-Semitism in the '50s. With the Encino Man himself, Brendan
Fraser. At Briarwood: 10:15, 12:30, 2:35, 4:40, 7, 9:15 At Showcase:
12:40, 3, 5:20, 7:50, 10:15, 12:25.
SINGLES Cameron Crowe's ("Say Anything") latest is a romantic comedy
about young folks in love for young folks in love. It's not all that great, but
any movie that gives Tad and Eddie Vedder lines is hard to resist. With
Matt Dillon, Bridget Fonda, Kyra Sedgwick, Campbell Scott (just
chockfull of those yuppie movie stars) and a swingin' Seattle soundtrack.
At Briarwood: 10:15, 12:45, 3, 5:10, 7:40, 9:50, 11:45; At Showcase:
12:30, 2:40, 4:50, 7:20, 9:35, 11:40.
SNEAKERS Phil Alden Robinson's follow-up to "Field of Dreams" is as
stale as J. Danforth Quayle. Robert Redford ought to stay behind the
camera. At Briarwood: 10, 12:15, 2:40, 4:55, 7:25, 9:55, 12:10; At Show-
cae 1.1 .4:O 7.20 10:05.12:30.
