U.S.Surgeon General to speak at School
of Health's 50th Anniversary Symposium

To celebrate its 50th anniversary,
the School of Public Health is spon-
soring a public symposium entitled
"A Vision for Health Care in the
21st Century" this weekend.
Three experts in the field of pub-
lic health will present concerns
about health behavior, environmen-
tal health, and health care services.
A panel discussion with five Uni-

versity alumni from different pub-
lic health fields will follow the
speeches.
Many health leaders and ac-
tivists will attend, including U.S.
Surgeon General Antonia Novello
and Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.). Nov:
ello, a former pediatrics resident at
the University Medical Center, vis-
ited the School of Nursing earlier
this year to dedicate the new Mott

Children's Center. This weekend she
will speak at the closing ceremony.
"Dr. Novello is a very ap-
propriate person to have speaking at
the School of Public Health's 50th
anniversary because of her concern
with crucial health issues. She is
also a very interesting and dynamic
speaker," said Susan Wyman, associ-
ate editor at the School of Public
Health. "And Senator Levin is a

thony, Director of the Michigan De-
partment of Public Health and a
University alumnus.
