While the Spartans are having a
sub-par season, they have been a tra-

fact, Michigan has never beaten
MSU.
"They seem to be having a lot of
bad luck this year," Joyaux said.
"But they are a solid varsity team.
They are definitely one of the better

by Josh Dubow
Daily Sports Writer
Yesterday afternoon, the new field
hockey rankings came out and
Michigan broke into the rankings at
No. 20.
But last night, the Wolverines did
not play up to their ranking despite a
3-2 overtime victory against Miami
of Ohio.
Junior attacker Kristin Shaiper
tallied the winning goal after a
blocked corner shot six minutes into
the second overtime. Shaiper's goal

One constant the Michigan side
has been able to rely on is the strong
play of goalkeeper Marc Kuiper.
"He's kept us in some matches
where we've had some defensive
lapses," Schwartz said.
When asked about his play,
Kuiper deflepted the credit toward the
entire defense. "I guess (it is be-
cause) I'm a senior and I know the
system pretty well," he said. "It's
geared toward the defense to play
well. It's easy to play out there."
