The Eastern Michigan Open,
which takes place this Saturday,
marks the beginning of the 1989-90
collegiate wrestling season. For
many coaches, these early tourna-
ments are opportunities to warm up
for the conference season.
Michigan coach Dale Bahr, how-
ever, does not subscribe to this point
of view. He believes that these
meets set precedents for the rest of
the season.

Cluff will compete at the 118-
pound weight class, while Feldkamp
will go at 142 and Green at 167. For
them, it will be extremely important
to start building the winning habits

"I can see a change in (Cluff's)
demeanor this year. He's really in-
tense in practice. Feldkamp's got a
lot of talent. Lanny's the type of
guy who can wear you down. He
needs to work on being more
explosive."
Another wrestler making his
debut will be heralded frosh Joey

Parker added.
The Wolverines are not entirely
inexperienced, though. Returning
starters Salem Yaffi, Larry Gotcher,
Sam Amine, Justin Spewock, and
Fritz Lehrke look to improve on
their performances of last year.
Amine will be defending his title

on individual competition, so no
team scores are kept. Nonetheless,
the results will give Bahr an idea of
where his team stands because six
teams from the Big Ten will be
represented, although pre-season
favorites Iowa and Minnesota will be
absent.
