eorge Harrison was recently in the
news as the guest of honor at the
opening of the Australian production
of the stage musical, Lennon-The
MusicalLegend The three surviving Beatles are
fighting to stop the commercialization, as op-
posed to the theatricalization, of their music.
"Any firm using the Beatles, name to promote
products will be taken to court,' threatens
Ringo Starr. The trio are already suing a British
brewery and EMI Records over a low-priced cas-
sette offer of 12 Beatles, songs advertised on
beer cans ... A lawsuit over a murder at a Roll-
ing Stones concert in Houston five years ago
has been settled with the family of the victim
receiving a $4.7 million settlement. The family
convincingly claimed that a lack of security
caused the stabbing death of their son. The bulk
of the money is to be paid by the concert pro-
moter. A similar stabbing death occurred earlier
this year at a British rock festival during a perfor-
mance by Queen. The victim, who had been
standing close to the stage, bled to death when

duced by Stewart Levine (Crusaders.
Minnie Riperton, Simply Red), who
paired the Boy with a new song-writ-
ing partner-Lamont Dozier of the legendary
Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-
Holland. There reportedly will be four songs by
the new songwriting team on the album, two
written by the band and two cover versions, in-
dluding Bread' t1972 hit "tEerything I Own."
Expect the LP in January and a single in time for
Christmas . .. Carlos Santana and his label,
Columbia Records, have locked horns. Columbia
refuses to accept his next album claiming that
it's not commercial enough Santana says he's

gotten a good response from audiences who
have heard the new material ... Ben E. King
(''Stand By Me'") has just signed a new record-
ing contract with Manhattan Records and has
already begun recording his first album in four
years with Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones
King's son, Ben, Jr., will make his record debut
with a cover of the song his father wrote and
made famous by Aretha Franklin, ''Spanish Har-
lem'' ... Expect Bryan Adams' new album
sometime after Christmas ... Simply Red
wrote the material for their next album while on
the road this year in support of their debut album
Moon/ghting co-star Bruce Willis will re-
lease his debut LP in January, with a single out
before then that features the Pointer Sisters. WI-
lis will also be appearing with the Pointer Sisters
on an NBC-TV special in January ... Dire
Straits' song, "Goin' Home 'is to be Britain's
battle song in the America's Cup Challenge.
Sales from the single are being used to train the
English crew for the yacht racing classic, to be
held in Australia (because that country won it last
time around) . . . Following the release of solo
projects by their two lead singers, Ben Orr and
Rick Ocasek, The Cars will get back together in
January to begin recording a new album
