Introducing The Mixn. .
Because sprinkling on top is good,
but mixing in is better.
Nothing tastes better in Steve's fresh, homemade ice cream than the mixins of your
choice-everything from candy and nuts to fresh fruit and crushed cookies-skillfully
blended by hand from top to bottom! Save the sprinkling for your lawn.

BEST FOOD

(Continued from :Page 5).
BEST HOT DOGS
Red Hot Lovers
Ann Arbor has a sizzling romance
with Red Hot Lovers. Now, due to
overwhelming demand, Red Hot's is
taking its act on the road with the
mighty "Dogmobile." Along with out-
standing hot dogs, Lovers serves up
excellent Tofu tube steaks. And
besides, fantastic frankfurters and
bodacious bean curd, the Lovers also
made a respectable showing in the
burger category.
BEST DESSERTS
The Pan Tree
The voters were by no means cer-
tain of the PanTree's prominence in
this division, but everyone's favorite
restaurant that prominently features
kiwi fruit edged Steve's Ice Cream, as
the place to "save room for afterwar-
ds."
BEST GREASY SPOON
Steve's Lunch
The competition was vicious in this
category. The Greasy Spoon is a
cherished American institution,
featuring good food, low prices, and
(preferably) waitresses in pink out-
fits. Fortunately, this town has three
close approximations; Blimpy's, the
Fleetwood Diner, and Steve's. One
voter separated Steve's from its com-
petitors.

BEST FOOD BARGAINS
Steve's Lunch
Well, the categories do seem to go
hand in hand. But Steve's swept this
one.
BEST TAKE-OUT FOOD
Taco Bob's
Ann Arbor's a hustling, bustling,
minor-league metropolis, with a
population that's moving fast. We
haven't got the time to sit around
eating. We've got things to do, places
to go. Bag that sucker up, Bob. Adios.
BEST DORM CAFETERIA
Stockwell
One of these categories is not like
the others. .. Although "none"
technically was the real winner,
Stockwell drew enough favorable
responses to suggest that they're
doing something right. Entree Plus
means freedom. Escape from your
local cafeteria for an evening, and
give S.F.S. a chance.

dresser who gets. locked up in a cell
with political prisoner Raul Julia.
The Breakfast Club - Five teenage
kids - a jock, a prom queen, a geek, a
rebel, and a recluse are locked up in a
library for eight hours as detention.
The result is perhaps a false im-
pression of teenage stereotypes, but
the movie is wonderful anyway. Great
performances by Ally Sheedy and An-
thony Michael Hall.
After Hours - This black comedy
will blow you away. Griffin Dunne is a
word processor from Upper Manhat-
tan, who ventures down to "dreaded"
SoHo to just meet a "nice" girl. In-
stead, he gets a fistful. of adventures
that make this one-night-stand a
lifetime rememberance. Fantastic
script, fantastic editing, fantastic
everything.
Hannah and Her Sisters - Woody
Allen again plays auteur in this
melting pot of emotions and relation-
ships The result is nearly flawless.
This film has something for everyone:
religion, child-rearing, adultery, punk
music, Thanksgiving dinners, and a
whole lot more. Barbara Hershey and
Dianne Wiest give dynamic perfor-
mances.
Witness - Amajor film without

pretentiousness? Yes, and that is the
beauty of this film. Harrison Ford is
great as the big city cop who gets in-
volved with an Amish boy who wit-
nessed a murder. Powerful yet subtle,
this film fully deserved its Academy
Award nomination.
Shoah - Thank God Ann Arbor got
this film. Powerful and intense this
documentary of the Holocaust was 10
years in the making. It's 91j hours
long but well worth the sit.
Ran - It's a pity that this master-
piece was not up for Best Foreign
Film at the Academy Awards. It
would have almost certainly won.
Long, but not a bit boring. It is a won-
der how any movie can be so perfect:
costumes, acting, scenery, editing
and directing. Wow!
The Official Story - This Argen-
tinian film won the Oscar for best
foreign film, and deservedly so. It
deals with a woman's search for the
truth surrounding her adopted
daughter's origins. Norma Ale andro
delivers an intense performance in an
equally powerful film.
Out of Africa - Last but not least is
the Academy-Award-winning movie
based on the true story of Karen
Blixen, in her adopted country,

Africa. Streep's acting, Sydney
Pollack's direction and the awesome
scenery are outstanding.
It has also been a fantastic year for
film for Ann Arbor. Film Festivals
galore.
Way back in the beginning of the
year, Performance Network presen-
ted 90 minutes of new experimental
films from the No Nothing Cinema of
San Francisco. This festival brought a
cacaphony of colors, sounds, drag
queens, aliens and sex to Ann Arbor.
Beautifully bizarre.
In January, the 16th Annual Eight
Millimeter Festival felivered a week
shock full of documentaries, B-
movies, animated films, and ex-
perimental films.
The Banned and Protested Film
Festival gave film buffs a rare look at
some of the most controversial films
from the past and the present. They
presented everything from Birth of a
Nation and Two Women to Fritz the
Cat and Sal, 120 Days of Sodom.
Perhaps the most controversial and
banned movie of the past decade, Hail
Mary, was shown, in which Mary is
depicted as a gas station attendant.
March brought the 24th Annual 16
Millimeter Festival. This is another
high competitive event which
delivered a montage of new and in-
teresting films from aspiring film-
makers.
