Jimmy Dean follows'
bands into the Void

R OBERT Altman's newest movie,
Come Back to the 5 and Dime,
Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, plays at a
special benefit sneak preview tonight at
8 p.m. in the Michigan Theatre. The
film, based on the Broadway play, tells
the story of a distinctive James Dean
fan club. Tickets are $5; proceeds go
toward the University School of Opera
Production Fund.
Altman, director of Nashville,
M*A*S*H, and other well-known
movies, is currently serving as stage
director for the School of Music's
November 4-7 production of Igor
Stravinsky's opera, The Rake's
Progress.
Also today, the annual musical ex-
travaganza Band-o-rama features a
number of the University's finest band
ensembles. The symphony band, jazz
band, concert band, marching band,
and the Friars of the Men's Glee Club,
perform at the 8 p.m. show at Hill
Auditorium.
This fund-raising event originated
during the 1940s as an educational event
for area junior and high school studen-
ts. Tickets are $2-6.
Finally, Schoolkids Records (523 E.
Liberty) hosts the San Francisco rock

group Romeo Void in a special
autograph-signing appearance
tomorrow at 6 p.m. prior to their con-
cert with Billy Idol at Second Chance
