WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Jim Rice
drove in four runs with a homer, single
and sacrifice fly and Mike Torrez pit-
ched five strong innings yesterday as
the Boston Red Sox rolled to a 9-1 vic-
tory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Jerry Remy, Tony Perez and Gary
Allenson had three hits each as the Red
Sox exploded for 18 hits in their sixth
victory in the last seven games.
Carl Yastrzemski, making his
exhibition debut after a couple of in-
juries, had two hits as Boston's
designated hitter. Rick Burleson, Butch
Hobson and Rice also had a pair of hits.
Torrez, making his first start since
injuring a hip March 17, blanked the
Orioles on three hits before calling it a
day. He struck out three and walked

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Brian
Kingman retired the first 16 batters he
faced before allowing a pair of singles,
and Rob Picciolo belted a two-run
homer, leading the Oakland A's to a 6-1
victory over the San Diego Padres
yesterday.
Barry Evans singled in the sixth in-
ning to end Kingman's perfect pitching,
and Aurelio Rodriguez followed with
another single.
The A's biggest inning was the third,
when they scored three runs including
two on a bases-loaded single by Jeff

downed the Cleveland Indians 7-1.
Cleveland, which had a five-game
winning streak snapped, got two hits
and an unearned run off Blue in the first
inning, but the left-hander gave up just
two singles the rest of the way.

gave up four walks in the fourth inning,
0orcing in two runs. The Giants added

cluding three runs in the seventh.
Darrell Evans had the key hit, a two-
run triple.
The only Cleveland run came when
spring training in the fourth after Mike
Edwards singled.
San Diego's only run was off reliever
Jeff Jones in the seventh. Dave Win-
field drew a two-out walk and scored on
a double by Willie Montanez.
Pirates 4, Twins 2
BRADENTONFla. - Dave Parker's
first home run of the spring, a tie-
breaking, two-run smash, helped the
Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-2 victory over
the Minnesota Twins yesterday.
Minnesota took a 2-0 lead in the
second inning off Pirate starting pit-
cher Rod Scurry.
Bobby Randall rapped a solo homer
for the first run. Guy Sularz followed
with a double and scored on a two-out
single by losing pitsher Roger
Frickson.
It was the second pitching victory of
the spring for Scurry, 2-0, who allowed
two runs and three hits in four innings.
Pittsburgh relief pitcher Dave
Roberts and Kent Tekulve allowed
three hits over the final five innings.
