MINORITY STUDENT SERVICES presents:
ETHNIC THEATER FESTIVAL

BOSTON (AP) - It was a marriage
born of mutual need. A jilted Pete
Maravich was looking for a new home.
The Boston Celtics were looking for a
sparkplug.
While neither found instant satisfac-
tion after tying the knot a couple of
months ago, the relationship now has
evolved to the point where one might be
lost without the other.
LAST TUESDAY snight, Maravich
bounded off the bench to score 17 of his
19 points in the final quarter and give
Boston a 96-95 National Basketball
Association victory over Washington
with a three-point field goal in the final
minute.
The next night, his eye was just about
as sharp. He pumped in 12 of his 16 poin-
ts in the fourth period. Four came

during an eight-point Celtics streak that
gave them a 102-97 lead and carried
them toward a 129-121 victory over New
York.
"I't"s the lift that we needed right
now," Boston Coach Bill Fitch said af-
ter the game.
MARAVICH. WAS in a position to ut-
ter the same words when Utah placed
him on waivers and, after no one
claimed him, Boston picked him up as a
free agent on Jan. 22.

"The way things transpired out in
Utah,,it was one of the most humiliating
experiences and one I've learned a-lot
from," he said.
At Utah, Maravich was healthy but
played very little.
"I DIDN'T play for about 21/ months.
You have to play a particular sport to
get in shape for that sport," he said.
"The mental stress that was on me con-
tributed a great deal to my phsyical
condition."
He was brought along slowly in
Boston and didn't make his first start
until March 18 against Indiana. He
scored 31 points.
Known throughout his career as the
sharpshooting, ball-handling star on
talent-poor teams, Maravich said he
wasn't fearful of coming to a club that
thrives on team play.
"I didn't feel it was a problem not.
being able to fit in. The Celtics' style of
basketball is fast break, good hard-
nosed defensive pressure and hitting
the open man, and that's how I play,"
he said.

"MY WORLD," says seven-foot Knick center Bill Cartright in body language to
Celtic guard Pete Maravich during action in Boston Wednesday night. Maravich
got the last laugh, though, as he scored 12 out of his 16 points in the fourth quarter
to lead the Celts to a 129-121 victory. Boston currently has the best record in the
NBA, and is 211%z games ahead of third-place New York in the Atlantic division.

BOSTON (AP) - Bobby Lalonde
scored two goals, and Ray Bourque set
a National Hockey League season mark
for most points by a rookie defenseman
as the Boston Bruins defeated the St.
Louis Blues 7-1 last night.
It was the third straight win for the
Bruins under General Manager Harry
Sinden.
Boston broke the game open with four
goals in the first period. Lalonde
opened the scoring just 10 seconds into
the game when he beat Blues goalten-
der Mike Liut with a backhander. A
minute later, Bourque made it 2-0 as he
converted a centering pass from Rick
Middleton for his 61st point.
